Ecology and the Environment

2. What we will learn this year in 7th grade science:
Ecology and the Environment:
Ecology: animal and plant populations, communities, ecosystems, and biomes
Using natural resources: land, water, air
Pollution, resource depletion (loss), and sustainability
Energy resources: renewable & nonrenewable

3. Units will include the following:
Scientific Method: How to conduct a controlled experiment
Metric & Measurements: How to use measurement tools and operate using the metric system
Graphing: How to plot and read 2 axis graphs

4. Grading:
Your grade will consist of grades from assessments, labs, and projects.
You are also graded on work completion and your classroom participation after each Unit or Lab.
I use a participation rubric which looks at the following learning behaviors:
Preparation – do you come to class with your materials
Attention and Focus – interactive and asks /answers questions
Contributions – relevant or off topic
Courtesy and Respect toward teacher, self, and class

5. Effective Classroom Behavior:
As your teacher I have:
High expectations for positive classroom behavior,
Expect helpful contributions, and
Will model respect toward you and your classmates.
You will discover that I am very fair and care very much about your personal success throughout your entire school day.
This will be a great year as long as you take your role in your own educational success seriously.
