What is Shadow Health?

What to show your students: We recommend playing the following brief video in class: 3 minute overview video: https://player.vimeo.com/video/101735331 If you do not have access to a computer and/or speakers, here is a quick synopsis of the Shadow Health technology: Shadow Health is a platform for you to hone your assessment skills on virtual patients. With these virtual patients, you will practice your interviewing, examination, documentation, and critical thinking skills. Shadow Health will provide you immediate feedback on your performance. Your instructor will provide grading rubrics to interpret this feedback on your performance. We will be accessing and completing Shadow Health assignments throughout the semester.

Why are we using Shadow Health? How will these assignments be graded?

Instructor View - Course Overview We recommend walking students through how at least one assignment will be graded. Shadow Health has example student work you can use for this purpose. Navigate to the Training Course to pull up example student work. Have your grading rubric, if applicable, handy and grade an example student attempt with this rubric in class.

Meet and Greet

Remember to keep in mind... Shadow Health virtual patients understand a vast number of questions, over 250,000, and is the best conversation engine on the market. To ensure success when interviewing these patients: You have to be very specific with questions Sometimes you will need to rephrase your question to get the answer you need Digital patients don’t have a working memory. Avoid unclear pronouns, as these can confuse digital patients.

Let’s meet Tina Jones! We suggest pulling up an assignment in class to introduce your students to Tina Jones. If you want to practice communicating with Tina in class, here is a script you can follow: https://frc.shadowhealth.com/home/first-day-resources-for-instructors/

Any questions?
