Description of Function NEPA requires federal agencies to assess the environmental effects of their proposed actions before making decisions. The seven core functions of NEPA are: Policy and Program Development Conservation and Protection Environmental Management Spatial Planning Application Management Public Education and Outreach Compliance and Enforcement

Environmental Issues Affected Agency/ Group Responsible Some successful cases: Protecting Drinking Water from Uranium Mill Wastes (Located on the West Bank of the Colorado River) Rethinking routes and roads on a national forest Los Alamos wildfire Agency/Group responsible: EPA Prepare NEPA documents for compliance Review environmental impact statements (EIS) of other federal agencies and to comment on the acceptability of the environmental impacts of the proposed action
