Bio’s of Key Figures from WWII

Joseph (Yosef) Stalin

1879-1953 Born in a small village in country of Georgia Dysfunctional Family Fought to overthrow the Czar in 1917 Communist Leader with Lenin

Joseph (Yosef) Stalin Was sent to study in Georgian capital city to become a Priest by his mother In 1917, is the get it done man during revolt In 1922, appointed to a low level position by Lenin in the new Soviet Communist Country In 1924, after Lenin dies, he seizes power by systematically arresting, trying and executing old leaders who could potentially defy him.

Joseph (Yosef) Stalin The Soviet Union saw great purges of anyone who had a higher degree during this time. Stalin, wanted to be, the sole expert on any matter that had any influence over the USSR Seized land and brought everything under government control – basically changing Communist USSR from being about the growth of the people to a Totalitarian gov’t controlling the people.

Adolf Hitler Born in Austria Believed that Germans were the superior race Fought in WWI and was angry with German leadership for the Treaty of Versailles Wrote “Mein Kampf” and circulated his ideas for bringing glory to Germany while in jail In 1934, Hitler seized power of Germany when the President died After taking control, he started to take land to provide more “living space” for the German people

1874-1965 Born in northern England Was an official English armed forces correspondent from 1899-1908 Ran for and won a position in Parliament in 1910

WWI – in charge of the British war effort and was not doing well… In and out of politics as a result Finally, in 1938 he speaks out against Nazi’s and refused to give in like Chamberlain He leads Britain in WWII and is remembered as a great hero for it!
