TREATY OF VERSAILLES Written at the Paris Peace Conference by the Big Four Woodrow Wilson – United States David Lloyd George – England Georges Clemenceau – France Vittorio Orlando – Italy

It is written without Germany present - it is forced to sign when it is complete. France wants revenge and the allies should occupy Germany. Wilson’s ideas are ignored – U.S. didn’t want to punish Germany or gain territory. The U.S. never signs the treaty of Versailles – Separate treaty conditions of Treaty of Versailles

6. Creation of new nations due to loss of territory by Germany, Russia and Austria-Hungry (Finland, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungry, Yugoslavia, Austria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) 7. League of Nations (U.S. does not join, not successful in enforcing it) 8. Germany is forbidden to unite with Austria to make a single German speaking nation

***THESE HARSH CONDIDTIONS WILL LEAD TO THE RISE OF FASCISM-NAZISM IN GERMANY AND THE BEGINNING OF WORLD WAR II

German Territorial Loses Germany lost territory to France and Poland, as well as all of its overseas colonies. Germany lost its navy, while its army was reduced to a small police force. Germany was forced to accept blame for starting the war and was required to play huge reparations (payment for damages) to the Allies. German Territorial Loses Punishing Germany THE PEACE TERMS THAT ENDED WORLD WAR I

Austria-Hungary and Turkey THE PEACE TERMS THAT ENDED WORLD WAR I Austria-Hungary and Turkey League of Nations The Austro-Hungarian Empire was divided up into several smaller states. New nations were formed in Eastern Europe.
