RYLA Program Objectives A Rotary program designed to help clubs and districts Develop Leadership Skills in their youth Demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth Encourage and Assist young people in responsible and effective voluntary leadership by providing them with a valuable training experience Foster continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth

Can YOUR Club Get Involved? Budget to send participants ($325.00/participant) Appoint a club RYLA Chair Club Presidents, Share the initial information with the appointed RYLA Chair RYLA Chair, Review the participant criteria and set up interviews for your candidates Submit the required paperwork for your participant Follow-Up to ensure they completed their paperwork too Reserve a club date post-RYLA for participants to share their experience with the club
Where & how to find the BEST RYLA participants… Connect with guidance counselors at your local schools and ask them to assist in recruiting interested students Arrange a time to meet in schools with interested students to share the RYLA promotional video, materials & answer questions. Have applications on hand! Invite your Interact Club officers and members to apply Encourage outbound exchange students to attend Children and grandchildren of Rotarians are great candidates Don’t forget the private schools & home school organizations Get the posters out in schools & public places! Be sure schools have a supply of RYLA brochures!
Does the Applicant Have What it Takes? Does he or she display leadership qualities? Has he or she held or ever wanted to hold a leadership position in the school or community? Has he or she ever been involved with community service? Does he or she have a good academic record? Is he or she willing to embrace the philosophy of the workshop and be prepared to engage in the activities wholeheartedly? Does he or she just need that extra push to step up?
How do the Participants Get Started Receive Permission from parent(s) or guardian(s) to attend the academy Complete the RYLA Application Return the Application to the local Rotary RYLA Chair Prepare for the interview by learning more about Rotary International – and Ace the interview Complete the RYLA Registration forms and prepare to attend RYLA 2018! Attend a Meeting of the Sponsoring Club before RYLA
RYLA Timeline for Clubs NOW Budget $325 per student for your RYLA Scholarships February: Provide the District Committee with the name and contact info of your RYLA Chair and number of participants you will send March: Promote RYLA in schools and community Promotional materials available and applications available on District website.
RYLA Timeline for Clubs April: Interview applicants and select participants. Return page 1 of application to District RYLA Registration Chair May: Confirm that participants have received info packet and completed forms June: Confirm with your recipients that he or she is attending and that he or she has a ride to the conference. July: Invite your participants to a Rotary meeting to share his or her RYLA experience
District 7360 RYLA RYLA is a four day event that PROVIDES high school sophomores and juniors OPPORTUNITIES to discuss leadership skills AND apply them by participating in activities, classes, and projects while making new FRIENDS and having the best time FOREVER!
