Role of the Careers Adviser Careers advisers enable people to make well prepared and realistic choices about their education, training and employment options. Ascertain the clients career aspirations, interests, motivations, skills and ability. Assist the clients understanding of the career decision making process. Gauging the clients readiness for career decision making. Outline the options for education/ training/ employment Assist the client in action planning. Providing professional and impartial careers information, advice and guidance to enable the client to make decisions. Provide ongoing careers guidance support. Make appropriate referrals to other agencies. Help some people to overcome the barriers they face in finding and staying on in employment, training and learning opportunities. For example, help people to complete job applications, construct a CV or learn interview techniques.

Outcomes 2015/16 21,332 Year 12 pupils (96%) received a one to one careers guidance interview.* 72,291 guidance interventions delivered to young people 20,938 guidance interventions delivered to Adults Partnership Agreements in place with 98% of post primary schools in Northern Ireland 88% of pupils surveyed knew more about their career options following their careers guidance interview. 99% of adults felt more confident in making career decisions as a result of their careers guidance interview. 2016/17 There were 500,000 visits to Careers Service web pages in 2016/17. *Academic Year 2015/16
