Radiation Laboratory Meeting VTX Pixel Status Radiation Laboratory Meeting 17th Oct 2013

1. Status in Run13 and after Run13 EAST side of VTX were removed because of a leak problem for Strip cooling tube. It was happened due to the corrosion of cooling pipes. At that point, we decided to repair EAST pixel ladders. Repair work had been done at Hayashi Tokei Company. Fifteen ladders whose bonding wires were broken in Run-11 and 12 had been repaired. The yield of the repairing was almost 100%. All ladders were tested at RIKEN and shipped to BNL for assembly of EAST layer 1.

2. Issue in Run-13 Back side view of WEST-B1 The burb fitting of cooling manifold of WEST layer1 was broken on 29th Apr. Cooling tube : TIGON tube Burb fitting : Peak material Cause Overstress from the bending tube Solution Replace with new manifolds Modify the shape to reduce stress

3. Summary of Current Status All cooling manifolds were replaced with new ones for all pixel layers. In Run-13, a burb fitting of manifold was broken due to overstress. Shape of manifolds were modified to minimize the stress. After attaching manifolds, pressure test had been done for all layers. Assembly of EAST layer 0 and 1 had been done. All ladders for EAST barrel were replaced with repaired ladders. We made an arrangement of the position of each ladders on layer 0 and 1. Electrical test of WEST layer0/1 and EAST layer0 had been done. Live area for each ladder of WEST layers was same as that in Run13. Live area for each ladder of EAST layer0 was almost same as that in Sr90 test at BNL.

To Do before moving to IR 4. Status of Barrel Assembly To Do before moving to IR WEST B0 B1 EAST Mounting ladders on a barrel mount frame No replacement Done Attaching manifolds Pressure test On-going Repair leak with glue if it’s found No need Electrical test Mate both layers Ready Not Ready Mate with Strip barrels Attaching big wheels (SPIROs) Final electrical test

Assembled Layers (Mounting Ladders and Attaching Manifolds) WEST-B0 WEST-B1 EAST-B0 EAST-B1 manifold

Pressure Testing Each layer were pressurized with N2 gas (40Psi) and measured pressure drop. Estimation of leak amount for gas Layer 0 of EAST and WEST 0.5 cc/day for WEST : OK 0.8 cc/day for EAST : OK Layer 1 of EAST and WEST 5 cc/day for WEST-Top : OK 8 cc/day for WEST-Bottom : OK 4 cc/month for EAST-Top : OK xxx cc/day for EAST-Bottom : FAILED

Leak Location Cooling support for pixel ladders WEST layer 0 : No leak Burb fitting Mount block Leak Location WEST layer 0 : No leak EAST layer 0 : No leak WEST layer 1 : 2 locations EAST layer 1 : 4 locations Leak is fixed by painting epoxy glue around the leak location. Input/Output pressure of VTX is about 26/12 Psi at IR.

Electrical Testing To confirm if there are any broken channels or not, electrical test had been done for all pixel ladders. Test items are current consumption of ladder, bias current of sensors and response from test pulse and noise. Pedestal hit distribution

5. Remained Tasks Pressure test for EAST layer 1 bottom (few days). Electrical test for EAST layer 1 (1 day). Mate of WEST and EAST pixel layers (half day). Mate of pixel and strip barrel (half day). Attach of Big Wheel (SPIROs) (1 day). Final electrical test for all pixel layers to confirm the electrical connection of bus cables (5 days). Layer 0 Layer 1 Pixel barrel Big wheel

5. Strip WEST B2 WEST B3 EAST B3 WEST layer 2 and 3 are almost ready for mating. Electrical test of strip ladders for EAST layer 2 is on-going. Pressure test for EAST layer 3 is on-going

6. Summary Repair work of ladders for EAST barrel had been done successfully. All pixel layers except for EAST layer 1 are ready for mating. Pressure test and electrical test had been done. Live area for all ladders were same as previous live area. VTX will be ready to move to IR on early November.
