Level 3 Probation Presentation Academic Disqualification / Dismissal Level 3 Probation is a serious matter. By now you have been out of college for at least one semester and you are ready to get back to college. Hopefully you have resolved the issues that kept you from excelling in college. If not, please talk to your counselor about strategies to help you do your best. First, I will review level 1 and 2 and how you allowed yourself to get to level 3 of Academic Disqualification or Dismissal. Then I will explain how to get back into college and the necessary steps needed for readmission to San Bernardino Valley College. Please listen carefully and at the end of this presentation, you will need to print the last page and bring it to the counselor you meet with at San Bernardino Valley College.

Review of level 1 Probation Level 1 Academic & Progress Probation A students whose GPA drops below 2.0 or “C” average is placed on academic probation. A students who has dropped 50% or more of classes enrolled or has not complete 50% of classes, receiving grades of ‘W’s (withdrawal) or ‘I’s (incompletes) is placed on progress probation. Now, lets review level 1 & 2 so that you understand how you got yourself into level 3 Probation. Level 1 of progress probation is considered a warning and this usually happens when a student who has completed 12 units and received course completion symbols of W, I, and or NP in 50% or more of the units attempted and less than a 2.0 GPA. Now, lets review level 2 of Academic Probation, which happens when a students cumulative GPA in 12 units or more fall below a 2.0 GPA – as a consequence, a HOLD is put on your registration, and you will not be able to register without meeting with a counselor to release the registration HOLD. In addition, having below a 2.0 GPA will also affect eligibility for Financial Aid, so be cautious and do your best to improve your grades as soon as possible. 

Review of Level 2 Academic Probation Level 2: REGISTRATION HOLD Level 2 Academic Probation A student is placed on academic probation when his/her cumulative GPA in 12 or more units falls below a 2.0 of all units attempted in each of the two consecutive semesters.

Level 3: How did I get to Academic Disqualification / Dismissal? After level 1 and or level 2 of academic or progress probation a student is dismissed for one semester when one of the following reasons exit: Student has below 2.0 GPA in units attempted in each of the three consecutive semesters. Student received courses completions of NP, I, and or W in 50% or more of the units attempted Student has received a combination of the two patterns listed in each of the consecutive semesters. As I said before, Level 3 of Probation is a serious matter. At this level you have been disqualified or dismissed from San Bernardino Valley College for one semester. This happens when one or more of the following reasons exists: The student has earned a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.00 in all units attempted in each of the three consecutive semesters. The student has received course completion symbols of NP, I, and/or W in 50% or more of the units for which he/she was enrolled in each of three consecutive semesters. The student has received a combination of the pattern listed above in each of the three consecutive semesters. As with probation, a student will be informed of dismissal by letter. The good news, is that you will be given a another chance to return to college. However, before this happens, you are required to complete this presentation, meet with a counselor to develop an educational plan and submit a petition for readmission. The next slide will give you the steps on how get back to college.
