It’s Time to choose classes for 7th grade

Our Course selection timeline Starting February 12th, all resource and spectrum classes will visit with me (Ms. Kole) in the computer lab to pick your electives for 7th grade. Before you meet with me, you need to explore the electives and know which ones you plan to take. Your teacher recommendations for Math, Science, English and Social Studies were loaded into your StudentVue in the Course Requests tab. We are now using all Honors codes for all core classes except Math. Math 6 goes to Math 7. Accelerated Math 6/7 goes to Algebra 1. Math 6/7 may also go to Math 8, if recommended.

How does this affect me? You will not be able to make changes to core courses. For electives, you must decide what you want to take in 7th grade BEFORE you meet with me! Today you are going to learn what your choices are.

Required 7th grade courses: All 7th Graders will take: Math, Life Science, U.S. History, English, H/PE and FACS/Tech Ed, which are each a semester class. All 7th Graders will have a 45 minute Resource/Spectrum class paired with a Music or Art Elective. All 7th Graders will also have the choice between Communications or a World Language.

Should I take a world language in 7th grade? Remember-If you take a World Language class, it is a high school credit course and will factor into your Grade Point Average in high school. If you take this class, be prepared to work hard and take it seriously. Who should take this class? Students who are hard working, have great study habits, are well organized and desire to advance in high school in a World Language.

First Elective – choice of: World Languages and Cultures Spanish 1 French 1 German 1 Latin 1

Or Communications Oral Interpretation Speeches: Impromptu, Extemporaneous Storytelling/ Drama Radio Television Advertising Speeches: Persuasive Debates Newspapers Internet Safety Speeches: Informative

Second Elective - choose your Music or Art This elective is 45 Minutes with 45 Minutes of Resource/Spectrum Chorus 7 Guitar 7- Level 1 Strings 7 – prerequisite – Strings 6 Band 7 - prerequisite (Percussion, Clarinet, Trumpet, Flute/Oboe, Low Brass, Saxophone) Art 7

Learn more about youR elective choices We have some video clips that might help! Go to the School Counseling tab on the Harper Park website, then click on the Course Selection 2018-2019 tab on the left hand side. Scroll down to see the Rising 7th Grade Course Selection Information and videos-click on any course to see the video. I look forward to seeing which electives you choose!!!

What do you need to do now? You will be able to see your teacher recommendations in StudentVue as of February 9th. These are your course requests for your core classes. Explore your elective options and be ready to choose your 2 electives by February 12th. If you have any questions after watching the videos about which electives to choose, talk to the teacher or come to me for help.

Have fun exploring the electives and be ready to choose on February 12th Classes will come to the computer lab beginning February 12th . Your Resource/Spectrum teacher has the schedule and knows when your class will attend. See you soon!
