Making sure your device works perfectly all year long. Chromebook care 101 Making sure your device works perfectly all year long.

The Exterior The hinges are fragile! Do not slam your laptop closed or throw it open and bend too far back. No stickers other than the one name sticker provided – static laptop decals are acceptable. Protect your new orange barcode (on the bottom)! The Serial # is equally important in tracking your device between you, us, and the factory. If you ever need to remove the battery, be sure you click it back in carefully.

The Interior Keyboard damage and keys popping off WILL result in a fine. If we can, we will replace a key or two the FIRST time. Every time after that the Chromebook is found with missing keys, you will be fined $50. No stickers Do not press on the screen. Close your device when carrying it to prevent added pressure on the screen.

Chromebook Repair times Join the Google Classroom Media Center group for information on our Chromebook Repair schedule. Chromebook repairs will take place every day EXCEPT WEDNESDAYS. Procedure: Get a pass from your teacher. Log a tech ticket for your issue Wait patiently until you are called for. Class work should be completed while you wait, either on your Chromebook or a desktop computer in the Media Center. You are in the Media Center and must sit and work quietly. If your laptop is taken for repairs, you will have to wait until at least the next day to receive your replacement.

Chromebook renewal January Must bring Chromebook and Charger to school to be scanned for inventory and insurance purposes. If your orange barcode is not on your laptop at that check, your laptop will be taken. These new orange barcodes must come from the district office and take a LONG time to get back. Damages will be noted.

Apps and extensions Your Chromebook is for educational purposes only, both at school and at home. Social networking sites (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), computer games, and other sites not assigned by a teacher are never allowed. Your Chromebook can be inspected for appropriate use at any time. It is property of OCPS. If found with unauthorized apps and extensions, or a history reflecting inappropriate web sites… 1st offense: Laptop taken and reimaged, letter sent home and signed and returned to Dean 2nd offense + : Saturday School

Earn liberty dollars! Random laptop History checks will be done. If you have an internet History that reflects appropriate use, you can earn 5 Liberty dollars! These checks will be conducted by your Media Specialist, teachers, and administrators.

Fines for damage Chromebooks Adapters 1st offense: $50 2nd offense: $100 3rd offense: full cost ($595) 1st offense: $10 2nd offense: $25 3rd offense: full cost ($55) KEEP YOUR CHARGERS AT HOME!

If you lose your chromebook… Let your teachers know immediately to be on the look out for it. Inform the Media Specialist If device isn’t found within a few days, YOU must file a police report and turn in the card with the incident # to Media Specialist. You must also complete a Witness Statement from the school. You may be subject to paying the full cost of the device depending on the situation. If your Chromebook is taken by a Dean or Administrator, you must wait until it is returned. The timeline is at their discretion. It is not lost and you cannot get a loaner.

Prepare for FSA testing All students will complete their FSA tests, EOC exams, etc. on their Chromebook. Be sure your Chromebook is in perfect working order BEFORE testing begins. If your Chromebook isn’t working, you would test in a Lab. Labs are often overcrowded, hectic, and run extremely late in the day with their testing times. You don’t want that! We have less labs available this year.

Security Access http://studentid.ocps.net from a school computer Customize or change your log-in password Do not tell anyone your password If a site asks to save your password, click NO.

Last tips Keep an umbrella, poncho, or plastic bag with you in case it rains! You must have a case or bag for your laptop Do not leave your laptop in an unsecure location. During class transition, protect your Chromebook in your backpack. Nightly homework: CHARGE YOUR CHROMEBOOK Do not play on it in the morning before school and drain your battery. Do not touch anyone else’s laptop…for any reason. You will be held responsible for damage to their laptop.
