Presentation transcript:

Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral Unit 1: Introduction to media processes and technical skills Assessor: Jane Parr Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria Student name: Ewan Pendleton Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Apply understanding of a range of processes to support media activities.  X Your annotations show that you have some understanding of the technical requirements when using a DSLR camera. Your annotations are very short and not very informative. 1.2 Apply media processes and skills safely and appropriately.  X You have shown that you can apply media processes safely and your final outcomes are of a high standard.  Your environmental portrait is excellent Ewan. Your autumn shot is fine but it is unlikely that you would have that particular space on a page to use the image and your front page shot should be upright not landscape. 2.1 Critically compare a range of communication methods used to convey meaning in creative media production.  Your annotations show that you have some understanding of how images can be used to convey meaning in photojournalism. Be more descriptive and extend your annotations when comparing imagery. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Date: 11th June 2014

Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral Unit 2: Introduction to design and research skills in creative media production Assessor: Shelina Mawani-Markin Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria; Student name: Ewan Pendleton Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Critically compare a range of research tools, methods and skills.      x   Well done Ewan! Re Google - you could refer to the task we did in class where you chose a story to research on Google to see effective Google is as a secondary source. You could go into more detail about different primary research methods e.g. interviews and focus groups and use an example of a story to illustrate primary research (be it to gather qualitative or quantitative data) being used in a story. In terms of skills, you could discuss how modern day journalists need multimedia skills. 2.1 Critically compare a range of primary and secondary research sources. x As above 3.1 Apply design and research tools, methods and skills to record and interpret information and develop ideas for creative production.  You have submitted evidence of having conducted primary and secondary research. You could have added some commentary to what you have submitted e.g. explained what research you have done, what your findings were, etc. 3.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of design and research tools methods and skills.  Not complete Your evaluation has been submitted. You could have elaborated on your comments about the primary research. You should always reflect on why the research worked or didn't. In your case, your facebook questionnaire - which questions worked in terms of giving you relevant information? Which ones did not? You could reflect on the wording you used. You could reflect on whether using a different or additional primary research method would have been more effective. Similarly, you have not really evaluated your secondary research. Yes it gave you relevant information, but what could you have done to improve on your use of secondary sources? I will pass the evaluation although it is barely a pass. Next time, for example in relation to your FMP, you MUST evaluate in much more detail. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Evaluation  Deadline Monday 4th December 2017 Referral deadline met. Work reassessed Monday 11th December 2017. Date: 11th June 2014

Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral Unit 3: Introduction to professional practice in creative media production Assessor: Tracy Mitchell / Shelina Mawani-Markin Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria; Student name: Ewan Pendleton Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Locate, access and use information to support own development. x You have sourced stories, conducted interviews and researched a job role in the media industry to a high standard, well done. Critically evaluate a range of working practices and methods. Not submitted You have evaluated your application of journalistic theory to a satisfactory standard. To develop this you could have evaluated your application of journalistic theory in more detail and more systematically. For example, you could refer back to the powerpoint presentations that Tracy delivered in class to refresh your understanding of the requirements of different journalistic formats and then evaluated whether or not your work met those requirements. In so doing you would be comparing your work with professional standards which is always a good way to develop your skills, and hopefully achieve your potential! 2.1  Apply knowledge of working practices to support own development See feedback on your portfolio submissions on Wordpress 3.1 Organise self and work to meet deadlines and targets. You continually worked in a manner that enabled you to meet deadlines – an essential skill for a journalist. 3.2 . Demonstrate consideration and professionalism in working with others. You have shown a professionalism in conducting primary research (interviews and surveys)  and news sourcing. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Unit 3 Evaluation has not been submitted. Referral deadline Monday 11th December 2017. Evaluation complete and submitted Date: 11th June 2014
