Choosing to study for a BTEC L2 qualification is the first step in a career in the IT industry. BTEC L2 First is a vocational qualification and you will have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to your future career. Additionally, the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 First Award: ● is a 240-guided-learning-hour qualification (equivalent to a GCSE in ICT) ● has 25 per cent of the qualification that is externally assessed. 3 Progression opportunities
The Edexcel BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Information and Creative Technology provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for level 2 learners to progress to: ●level 3 qualifications, such as BTEC Nationals, specifically the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 in IT ● academic qualifications – other A Levels ● employment within the information technology industry and/or areas within the creative industries, such as developing computer animations. © Pearson Education Ltd Copying permitted for purchasing institution only.

4 Assessment A learner must achieve all the assessment criteria for that grade. Therefore: ● to achieve a Level 2 Distinction (A) a learner must have satisfied all the Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria. ● to achieve a Level 2 Merit (B) a learner must have satisfied all the Pass criteria and Merit criteria. to achieve a Level 2 Pass (C) a learner must have satisfied all the Pass criteria. © Pearson Education Ltd Copying permitted for purchasing institution only.

5 Submissions You will be set a deadline of 10 days from the date the assessment is given to you to complete the assignment. Teachers will not accept any work after the 10 day deadline. You will assessed within 10 days of the assessment decision. Re-Submissions – it may be appropriate for the Lead Internal Verifier to authorise one opportunity for a learner to resubmit evidence to meet the assessment criteria only if the following has been met: The learner has met initial deadlines set in the assignment, The tutor judges that the learner will be able to provide improved evidence without further guidance © Pearson Education Ltd Copying permitted for purchasing institution only.

6 External Assessment Externally assessed units have the same grades as internally assessed units: Pass, Merit or Distinction Unit 1: The Online World This unit is externally assessed using an onscreen test. Edexcel sets and marks the test. The external assessment will be 1 hour. No. of marks 50 marks. You will receive the results within 60 days. 13 Digital Graphics Digital graphics are found in many places, including promotional materials, documents and websites. This unit will give you an awareness of the software currently available to create and manipulate images. It will show you techniques that you can practise to enhance your graphical skills, as well as the hardware required to capture, edit and print digital images.

16 Real or Fake? Task 1: Go to photo-game/ to look at some images. Find out if you can pick out the fake photographs on this website from the real ones. Task 2: Search the Web for photographs that interest you. Identify photographs that you think: are enhanced to help sell a product are faked to give a wrong impression have been edited into a humorous image Open a Word document or PowerPoint. Describe the photos you have found and why you have chosen them. How well do they meet the criteria above.

18 Effective Online advertising
Use design features to capture the attention of the target audience e.g. colour, layout, graphics, animation (e.g. a banner advert). Keep the consumer interested direct consumers to additional interactive information about the product – e.g. a video demonstration. make sure that the information loads quickly so that the consumers don’t lose interest.

19 Pay-Per-Click advertising
Web pages host adverts for other companies. If someone clicks on an ad they will be redirected to the advertiser’s website and the web page provider will receive payment for every ad that is clicked on. P-P-C uses an affiliate model An ‘affiliate’ website is one that is attached to another company’s website via a link. The affiliate website receives a percentage of the revenue for customers clicking through from their website to the other company’s website.

20 Summer Task Find out more about per-per-click advertising and how companies use it. Produce a short leaflet which describes the pay-per-click structure and gives reasons for and against this form of advertising. Search for google adwords, yahoo! search marketing and Microsoft adCenter click/price-per-click.htm
