Business, Marketing, Management, & Real Estate Program Review Presentation April 29th, 2015

Program Description The mission of the Business department at American River College is to provide educational, training and academic opportunities, with an entrepreneurial emphasis, for students to fully develop personal and professional attributes to succeed in society. As such our focus on both career and technical education, general education and lower division post-secondary education helps to support the ARC mission. Additionally, we have expanded our delivery methods to better serve the needs of students. Our primary goal is to ensure that we provide opportunities that are both realistic in meeting personal and community expectations, while maintaining a level of training and academic rigor that is appropriate. Brief Description of your program. Who are you? One Slide, 2 minutes

Benchmarks Student Enrollment-stability Diversity- ARC 6 year enrollment dropped -17.9% Business Department dropped -6.1% Diversity- In every measure, ethnicity, gender, age, our numbers were better than what the College was experiencing. For instance, female students declined by -19.5% at the college but our department decline rate was quite low at-3.8%. Student Success Rate Has dipped over the last 6 years by approximately 2% 68.5% compared to the overall College success rate of 70.96%

Program -- Strengths Dynamic, Flexible, Innovative Growth in Diversity Expanded number of degrees and certificates offered. All but one degree is available in an online format. Consistently scanning the environment to find ways to react to the economy, the market, employers and student needs. Multi-modal methods of offering classes helps to reach a greater number of students. Growth in Diversity While ARC saw a decline among all ethnic groups we saw growth, and in terms of the non-traditional student (over the age of 40) while the College saw double digit declines we experienced growth!

Program -- Challenges Increasing Retention Rate Ensuring Access Communication & Training for all faculty Remain current in our programs due to constant change

Planning Implications Training & Support for full time and adjunct faculty Emphasis on ADA compliance & Student retention strategies. Providing additional support & resources for faculty teaching online. Working with Industry to meet the needs of both students and employers. Continually monitoring benchmarks such as retention rate to gauge progress towards our goals.
