ECONOMICS Program Review Presentation April 14, 2010

2 Program Description Economics is concerned with how to allocate limited resources to satisfy unlimited wants. Economics is the study of how individuals and societies choose to use limited resources for production of goods and services and how they distribute them for current and future consumption. Brief Description of your program. Who are you? One Slide, 2 minutes

3 Program -- Strengths The department has a diverse faculty suited to serve a diverse student population. Our professors come from China, Kenya, the Philippines and the United States. The theoretical and mathematical levels of economics courses taught at ARC have improved because of the training and the backgrounds of the faculty at the Economics Department.

4 Program -- Challenges Given the student’s level of proficiency, particularly in math, the department needs to offer more tutoring hours to economics students on an individual basis. These extra tutoring hours will improve Econ students’ success rate. The CSU system has recently imposed new transfer requirements for ECN 302 and ECN The Economics faculty across Los Rios are currently in discussion to find solutions to this challenge.

5 Planning Implications
To improve students’ success rate, we would like to offer more tutoring hours for economics students on an individual basis if there are resources available. With overcrowded classrooms, it is very difficult to maintain the quality of teaching. We will need to offer more sections to accommodate all students.
