Policies/Expectations Electronic Policy – students must silence or turn off their phone and place it in the organizer at the front of the room by the time the bell rings. Late work – I do not accept it. Absences – students are responsible for obtaining the make-up work and have 3 days to turn in the work. Use the web site. No food or drink – plain water is allowed

Activities/Assignments Bell Ringer/Daily Grammar Practice (DGP) -Students have 5-7 minutes to complete the grammar task. DGP are collected every 10 entries. Worth 100 Points. Quote responses: Students will write the quote and answer the questions using complete sentences. Quotes will be collected every 5 entries. Worth 100 Points. -

Activities/Assignments Cont. Weekly vocabulary study beginning September 12. Twelve words on each list. Voc. Cards are due at the beginning of the week. Quizzes occur on Fridays and are cumulative for up to three lists. Voc. Cards must be on index cards to be accepted. There are 24 lists. There will be a cumulative test on lists 1-12 in December, and there will be a test on lists 13-24 in May.

Literature Summer reading: test is on Tuesday, Sept. 5. on Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie. Elements and literary terms as applied to the following genres: Short story epic poetry Greek drama Shakespearean drama poetry drama Novels non-fiction Independent reading project Oral presentation

Research Paper We will complete a research project during the 3rd quarter. Students will read poems from American poets and research the poet’s life and time period identifying three influences and how those influences affect the poet’s writing/poetry. Emphasis -note taking, documentation of print an electronic sources, and preparation of a Works Cited page using MLA method.

Supplies Three-ring binder – 1 ½”-2” 5 tab dividers Loose leaf notebook paper (lots of it) Pens (blue or black ink) and pencils 3x5 index cards – need for vocabulary Highlighter, colored pencils

English notebook The three-ring binder should be labeled with student’s name, my name, course name, and class period. The five tab dividers should be labeled as follows: Starters Writing Vocabulary Literature Returned work This notebook will be taken up and checked periodically. First check will occur on Sept. 5 – quiz grade.
