Grading Grading will consist of tests, quizzes, homework & class participation and is based on total points. Total possible points/Total points earned = Grade

Genesis Check your child’s grades regularly. Email Miriam Burkhardt at mburkhardt@mv.org . She will set you up with an account.

Reading Novels: Bridge to Terabithia Matilda Maniac Magee Holes Vocabulary will be given as we read through the novel. Students should read through their vocabulary words nightly. If they do, they will know the words come time to take a test. Materials needed daily for class: 2” binder Loose leaf novel

Language Arts Materials needed daily for class: Collections textbook 2” binder (4 sections – Warmup, Collections, PSSA, Grammar) Journal (needs to be covered with pictures by student) Loose leaf Vocabulary will be given as we read through the different stories. Students should read through their vocabulary words nightly. If they do, they will know the words come time to take a test. Lists are combined from two or more stories before a quiz is given.

Language Arts Writing: Students will have different writing assignments throughout the year. These will help them to prepare them for the PSSA’s. Study Island: The student will go to the computer lab once a week to work on different skills using Study Island. They will also have a packet with notes and some practice questions. The packets will be graded.

Language Arts Grammar: Grammar will be taught about twice a week. The papers will be kept in their grammar section of their binder.

Science Materials needed daily for class: Binder Loose leaf Science book We have a new science book that the students will write in instead of having handouts. They should review the material taught each night. If they keep reviewing the material every night they will have little studying to do the night before the test.

Quizlet Quizlet is a website where the students can study vocabulary words and have fun at the same time. Students do not need to join Quizlet to use it. If they choose to do so they will need your permission since most students are under the age of 13. (I have discussed this with them.) If you do decide to join, you will receive notifications when new lists are added. www.quizlet.com
