Case: Academica Data Center in Finland ABB Technologies for the most energy efficient data center in the world Customer: Academica Katajanokka Data Center in Helsinki. According to Academica, their site is the world’s most energy efficient AC data center Helsinki Energia and Academica won the Uptime Institutes global IT Award on 2010 Unique about the project: Data center is located beneath Uspenski Cathedral using sea water and heat exchangers, absorption and heat pump technologies to cool servers Over 50% of the energy consumed by traditional method cooled data centers is for cooling Helsinki Energia`s and Academica`s system reduces the consumed energy for cooling by 80%. The heat that is produced by the servers is fed into the municipal heating network © ABB Group September 6, 2018 | Slide 2 © ABB Month DD, YYYY | Slide 2

Case: Academica Data Center in Finland Energy management of servers and cooling ABB solution: ABB Power Distribution Unit ABB MNS, low voltage, Power Distribution Unit has been designed for mission critical industries such as data centers, in which reliable electricity distribution is a must More effectively manage the data centers capacity and the energy consumption of the servers and the cooling system Enables real time energy consumption measurement per each single server A routine maintenance can be undertaken when the PDU is live Execute extensions and modifications without the necessity of shutting down the complete PDU Have a safe personnel movement in the server room Customer value: More effective energy management of the servers enables Academica to better manage the major cost item of operations End customers are more interested in about the energy consumption of servers dedicated to them – increased transparency of real energy consumption Therefore, the consumed energy can be invoiced per each server or customer if needed © ABB Month DD, YYYY | Slide 3
