Recap what humans need to survive  link this to Amelia Earhart. What would she have needed to take on her journey? What humans need to eat and drink & importance of exercise - Link to illnesses (e.g. scurvy) suffered by explorers – research using iPads reasons why this happened & what happens to us if we don’t exercise or eat healthily. Germs – what germs are and how they were discovered  find out about Flemming. Investigation Question- Where in the school are the most germs? Maths Following Power Maths. Money: Recognise and use signs for pounds and pence. Combine amounts of money to make a particular value. Find different combinations of coins that equal the same amounts of money. Solve practical money problems involving addition and subtraction, including giving change. Multiplication & Division: Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division and write them using the multiplication (x), division (➗) and equals (=) signs. Solve problems involving multiplication and division using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, multiplication and division facts. Recap Autumn 1 learning of Place Value and Addition & Subtraction. English Listen to a variety of text, discussing and expressing views. Discuss the sequence of events in stories, becoming increasingly familiar with and retelling a wider range of stories, increasing vocabulary and opinions. Recognising non-fiction texts and the key features to them. Continue phonic development for reading and spelling. Learn and apply common exception words to writing. Read perform & write poetry. Write sentences by: Saying out loud what they are going to write about. Consistently and independently writing correctly formed sentences. Sequence sentences to form narratives. Predict what Jack will have in his patchwork sack for his journey. Write a description of the story setting. Retell the story. Non fiction Text – Explorer – Amelia Earhart –Write a biography. Write a newspaper report about her journey. Write a poem. Answer non-fiction comprehension questions. Great Explorers. Geography Name and locate the seven continents and five oceans. Geographical Skills & Fieldwork • use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents and oceans; use simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) and locational and directional language [e.g. near and far; left and right], to describe the location of features and routes on a map; use aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devise a simple map; and use and construct basic symbols in a key. Identify the seven continents and five oceans of the world. Map the route of Amelia Earhart’s journey using locational and directional language. Plot our own route from school. What features would we see? Draw a map of our local area with key. Art and DT To develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space to use a range of materials creatively to design and make products to use drawing, painting Cooking & Nutrition use the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet to prepare dishes understand where food comes from.    Cooking travel biscuits – write instructions. Make a healthy lunch box to take on a journey – compare this to what Amelia Earhart would take. Paint a seascape and lighthouse picture. RE-Staffordshire Agreed syllabus. Beliefs, teaching and sources- 1.2a 1.2b1 .2c History Learn about the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements.
