Explanation. Recount. Poetry - vocabulary building (list poems) & calligrams. Uses of everyday materials Identify and compare the uses of a variety of everyday materials including wood, metal, plastic, glass, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. Find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. Switched on computing Unit 2.1 ‘We are astronauts’ Summary: Programming on screen. Focus: Programming. Resources: Scratch. Experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the interrelated dimensions of music. Use a range of materials creatively to design and make products. Develop a wide range of art techniques using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. Explore the work of several artists describing similarities and differences between them. The lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national/international achievements –compare aspects of life in different periods: Christopher Columbus compared to Neil Armstrong, The Wright Brothers, Amy Johnson, George Stephenson, Henry Ford. Changes within living memory and how these show changes in national life (e.g the development of motor transport, the Channel Tunnel etc) Locational knowledge Name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans (via Christopher Columbus and his travels) Place knowledge Understand similarities and differences through contrast between a small area of the UK and a contrasting non-European country. (comparison of transport links) Human geography Explore which land uses are affected by transport links. Geographical skills and fieldwork Use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the UK and its countries, as well as other countries, continents and oceans. Road safety. Impact of traffic on local areas (traffic surveys). Eco-friendly transport. Designing a vehicle Design: follow a design criteria, generate ideas through talking, mock- ups, drawing and templates. Make: select from a range of tools. Choose materials and components based on their characteristics. Evaluate: evaluate ideas against the criteria. Technical knowledge: understand and explore mechanical systems in their products (wheels, axles) Traditional games Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending. – AUTUMN 1 Gymnastics Rolls and balance, different ways to travel, capital letter and full stop. Beginning to copy sequences of these movements. – ALL AUTUMN Multi-skills Foot and eye co-ordination, hand eye co-ordination. (toe taps – up and down catch ).
