Electricity flows in a closed path called a circuit. A simple electrical circuit is a system with three parts that have: 1.A source that provides electricity.
 Electric charges move in a looped path called a circuit – starts and ends in the SAME spot  A simple circuit contains a source of energy and at least.

Science Review

Which setup will light the bulb?

Look at the circuit in the picture. It is incomplete. Can you make the motor run with a piece of string? Why or why not? Can you make the motor run with a piece of aluminum foil? Why or why not?

Look at the diagram to the left. Will the motor run? Why or why not?

What kind of energy does the bell convert into? Each of the objects below converts electric energy into another form of energy. What kind of energy does the bell convert into? sound energy

What kind of energy does the clothes iron convert into? Each of the objects you’ll see show electric energy converting into another form of energy. What kind of energy does the clothes iron convert into? heat energy

What kind of energy does the head lamp convert into? Each of the objects you’ll see show electric energy converting into another form of energy. What kind of energy does the head lamp convert into? light energy

Which picture has arrows that show how electricity flows through a bulb and battery circuit?

Which picture has arrows that show how electricity flows through a bulb and battery circuit?

What does the D-Cell do in a complete circuit? It provides the electricity!

What do the wires do in a complete circuit? They provide the pathway!

What does a switch do in a complete circuit? It turns the bulb off and on!

He is going to use the setup on the right. Bob has an object he wants to test to see if it’s an insulator or conductor. He is going to use the setup on the right. How can he use the setup to test the object?

How will he know if the object is a conductor?

Bob wrote this in his science notebook… All metals stick to magnets. All metals conduct electricity. That’s easy to remember!

Correct Bob’s first sentence… what should it say? All metals DO NOT stick to magnets. All metals conduct electricity. That’s easy to remember!

How would you trace the flow of electricity in the circuit to the right? Bob started his day in a negative mood. But, he traced the flow of his thoughts and turned them into positive ones instead!

Would anyone like to draw a schematic diagram of the circuit shown to the right?

Which of the materials below is a good conductor of electricity?

Bob would like to make an electromagnet. What does he need in order to make an electromagnet?

Increase number of winds around the nail? Add a switch to the circuit? Now that Bob has made an electromagnet, he would like to make it stronger. What should he do? Increase number of winds around the nail? Use a thicker wire? Add another battery? Add a switch to the circuit?

Match the vocabulary terms. D-cell A ______________ is a cylinder with an electrical contact at each end; the positive end has a nub or bump, the negative end is flat.  insulator circuit A _____________________ is the complete path that an electric current travels along. switch A material that does not allow the flow of an electric current is called an _______________. insulator closed circuit An electric circuit through which current can flow in an uninterrupted path is called a _____________________________.   conductor closed circuit D-cell An object or type of material that allows the flow of an electrical current is called a ______________________________.   conductor open circuit A _________________________ is a small device that starts or stops the flow of electricity to something when it is pressed or moved up and down.   switch circuit open circuit An ________________________ is an electrical circuit that is not complete.
