Electricity! 4-5.6 & 4-5.8 E. Biggs

Electricity: Let's review what we know!

Electricity source: -Provides the energy to the lightbulb.

Electricity receiver: -A component that uses the electricity from the source to make something happen.

Components: -All the individual items in the circuit. D-cell Wires Bulb

Circuit: -The pathway for the flow of electricity.

Filament: -The part of the bulb that gets hot and produces light.

A Motor: -It is an electrical receiver. -Can you get electricity from the d- cell to this receiver?

We will use the circuit base to hold everything in place. We also have a special clip.

Fahnstock clip: -Press down with your finger or a pencil eraser.

After you get the motor running, trace the path of electricity with your finger.

Switch: What does a switch do in circuit?

Switch: -The switch controls the flow of electricity!

Open Circuit: When the handle is not touching the clip, you have an open circuit.

Open Circuit: The electricity cannot flow, and the motor does not run! Will electricity flow?

Closed Circuit: When the handle is touching the clip, you have an closed circuit.

Closed Circuit: The electricity can flow, and the motor will run! Will electricity flow?

Do you think switches can be used to turn light bulbs on and off? Investigate to find out!

Compare Circuits! -How is the motor circuit like the bulb circuit? -How is it different?

So Far.... We have used electricity to light a bulb and run a motor.

What else do we use electricity for? Make a list with your partner.

Electricity is....... a form of energy that can be changed into other forms of energy.

Light: Think of lamps, televisions, and computer screens.

Heat: Think of ovens, toasters, microwaves and irons!

Sound: Think of radios, televisions and door bells!

Light, Heat & Sound: What else can you think of? ?
