2 Electric current flows through a path called a circuit. An open circuit has a break in its path and does not allow electricity to flow through. A closed circuit does not have a break and allows electricity to flow through.

3 When the switch is on, the circuit is closed, allowing electricity to flow. When the switch is off, the circuit is open, stopping the flow of electricity.
