be nice• be prepared • be willing to try • be successful Welcome to 7th Grade Math! Teacher Name: Mr. Byrd Room Number: 240 Email Address: byrddo@hickoryschools.net Contact Phone Number: 828-327-6300 Grading policy The 7th grade operates on a weighted grade scale. Students’ assignments fall into one of the following categories (Classwork, Homework, Quiz, or Test) and each category is a certain percent of a student’s grade. Homework 10% Classwork 20% Quiz 30% Test 40% be nice• be prepared • be willing to try • be successful Grading Scale: A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70-77 D = 60-69 F = 59 or below Remind Text Messaging! Sign up to receive text messages for homework and important due dates! Welcome back! Supplies: Bring everyday! Binder and Spiral Notebook Pencils and Erasers Notebook Paper Pens, colored pencils, glue sticks, etc. Completed Assignments Calculator (optional) A positive attitude and a willingness to work hard! Textbook: Each student will be given a textbook with instructions on when to bring to class and how they will be used! Homework Policy: You will have some type of homework most nights. We usually begin these assignments in class and if the students do not finish in class, they are required to finish it as homework. Each student will fill out his or her planner with all homework assignments daily.

be nice• be prepared • be willing to try • be successful topics covered Ratios and Proportional Relationships Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world \and mathematical problems. The Number System Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers. Expressions and Equations Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations. Geometry Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them. Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume. Statistics and Probability Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population. Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations. Investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models. Standards for mathematical practice .Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. .Reason abstractly and quantitatively . Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. .Model with mathematics. .Use appropriate tools strategically. .Attend to precision. .Look for and make use of structure. .Look for and express regularity in repeating reasoning. be nice• be prepared • be willing to try • be successful Need math help? Mr. Byrd will designate a day each week for optional after school tutoring or make up work opportunities! Contact your teacher if more help is needed. Late work: Assignments are expected on the due date. After 2 days late work will not be accepted! Absent work: Students are allowed to make up all assignments that are missed when they are absent from school. Students must request missing work from each teacher the day they return to school. Students will have one day in addition to the number of days that they were absent in order to complete and turn in all missing work without penalty. For example: If a student misses 1 day of school, they will have 2 days to complete and turn in all make up work upon returning to school.
