Math Workshop 6th-8th Contact Information Class Materials Kathryn Torres Room #1106 For this course, you will need the following resources: Composition book 1 folder w/ brads Pencils Colored pencils (or markers) Course description In this course, we will be working to better your mathematical skills so you can succeed. For some this may mean focusing on fractions, for others it may mean dissecting and understanding statistics and probabilities. While working on what you may be struggling with, we will begin to learn and apply new math content. Course objectives- Year at a glance 6th: Rational Numbers, Equivalent Expressions, Proportional Reasoning, Proportions and Percent, Integers, Equations, Geometry, and Statistics 7TH: Rational Numbers, Proportional Relationships, Equations, Proportions and Geometry, Circumference and Area, Volume, Proportions and Percent, Probability, and Statistics. 8TH: Proportional Relationships, Slope and Y-intercepts, Functions, Equations, Similarity and Dilations, Coordinate Plane Geometry, Real Numbers, Pythagorean Theorem, Geometry, and Data Analysis. Course Text: Motivation Math textbook and other resources

2 Schedule and Policies Tutoring Schedule: Homework:
Wednesday & Thursday 7:50-8:10 Wednesday 3:30-4:15 in Achievement Center Other times available upon request. If you are failing you are REQUIRED to attend tutoring once a week Remember- I want you to succeed! If you are struggling at any point, please see me so that we can work together to come up with the best plan for your success. Homework: There is normally no homework for math workshop. It will also be assigned if you do not complete your work in class. It is then assigned as homework. Remember: You are here to utilize this time to learn. Do not distract yourself or others. Everyone in here needs as much help and practice as possible Classroom Expectations: Be prepared and on time Respect others, the classroom, and yourself Be productive 10 in, 10 out Always do your best What to do when absent: On day of return, use warm-up time to get copies of work missed (if applicable) out of make-up work folders, and ask teacher questions about the make-up work if needed. Students have one day per day missed to make up work. How to improve a failing grade: Attend tutoring Participate in class Talk to your teacher Grading: Classwork: 40% Class participation: 30% Journal work: 30% Late Policy: Late work will have 20% taken off the given grade. It will be accepted for 3 weeks after assigned.
