Your Need For Nutrients Nutrition: the study of what people eat and the effects of diet on health. Nutrients: substances in foods that the body needs for growth and repair of cells, for body processes, and for energy. *A healthy diet includes foods that give each of the 6 kinds of nutrients *

The 6 Basic Nutrients Proteins: Nutrients needed for growth and repair of body cells. Foods that contain proteins are meats, fish eggs milk, wheat germ, nuts, cheese and beans Fats: provide energy and help the body store vitamins. Foods that contain fat are meats, butter, whole milk, ice cream, cheese, and many others.

The 6 Basic Nutrients Carbohydrates: body’s main source of energy Foods include cereal, rice, potatoes, bread, pasta, fruits, and vegetables. Vitamins: nutrients that help the body use carbs, proteins, and fats. A, B1, B2, B12, D, E, K Found in a variety of foods
