Combining Like-Terms with Distributive Property Objective: SWBAT simplify expressions by combining like-terms with the distributive property.

Vocabulary Distributive Property means to multiply a number to EVERY number inside a set of parentheses Example: 8(4x + 2y – 3)   8(4x + 2y – 3) 32x + 16y – 24

Practice Simplify each expression by using the distributive property then combine like-terms (if needed). 1. 4(2x + 3) 8x + 12 3. 4(3a + 2) + 2(a – 4) 12a + 8 + 2a – 8 14a 2. 3(5x – 6) 15x – 18 4. 3(5y + 4) + 2(3y + 5) 15y + 12 + 6y + 10 21y + 22

5. 5x + 2(3x – 4) 5x + 6x – 8 11x – 8 6. 10 + 2(4x – 3) +5x 10 + 8x – 6 + 5x 13x + 4
