Presentation on theme: "Lesson 2.1 How do you use properties of addition and multiplication?"— Presentation transcript:

1 Lesson 2.1 How do you use properties of addition and multiplication?
You can use properties to rewrite problems to make mental math easier or to convert to different units of measure.

2 Lesson 2.2 How do you use the distributive property?
The distributive property combines multiplication and addition. You multiply the term on the outside with each term on the inside. Then simplify if necessary.

3 Lesson 2.3 How do you simplify variable expressions?
To simplify variable expressions, you combine like terms and remove any parentheses.

4 Lesson 2.4 How do you solve equations with variables?
To solve equations with variables, you use inverse operations to determine the number the variable should be.

5 Lesson 2.5 How do you solve equations using addition or subtraction?
To solve an equation where there is addition, you will subtract from both sides. To solve an equation where there is subtraction, you will add to both sides.

6 Lesson 2.6 How do you solve equations using multiplication or division? To solve an equation where there is multiplication, you divide on both sides. To solve an equation where there is division, you will multiply on both sides.

7 Lesson 2.7 How do you solve equations involving decimals?
To solve an equation involving decimals, you will use inverse operations to isolate the variable.
