Presentation transcript:

(Tues AM – Mrs Malmberg) English In English, we will use Roger McGough’s ‘Sensational’ as inspiration for writing our own poetry based on the senses. Vocabulary development will focus on synonyms and descriptive language. In writing our own autobiography our main objective will be to engage our reader through humorous style and quirky facts. Mrs Malmberg will monitor our class spellings regularly. Science As we will be looking at life cycles in plants, animals and humans, this will involve lots of additional learning outside of the classroom. As such upon the completion of Forest Friday next 15th September, we ask that the children keep their outdoor clothes and footwear in school (in a named carrier bag) for the remainder of the unit. This will require them to have school uniform to change into and a raincoat in school every day. Important info PE days will be on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that all kit is in school at all times and refer to the uniform section of the school website for kit requirements. I recommend that children have a drinks bottle in school to stay hydrated. Home learning expectations are outlined on the class website page but children should have a reading book in school every day along with their homework diary. Home learning will be set on a Friday and will be due back in on the following Friday. Home learning will be given weekly unless stated otherwise. In addition to children recording their homework in their homework diary, I will endeavour to update the class website weekly (barring technical issues.) Further details about home learning eg. Spelling suitcases/Maths passports/Mathletics will be available on the class website page. Maths We shall be looking in depth at number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication, division and measurement. With Mrs Malmberg the children will regularly investigate maths problems. Sensational Me! Hamptworth Class TERM 1 Miss Alice Bignell (Tues AM – Mrs Malmberg) Music In music we will be looking at body percussion inspired by Anna Meredith’s ‘Connect It,’ part of BBC Ten Pieces, in addition to Junk Percussion. RE In RE this term we shall be exploring Sikhism. Our Key Questions for this term are; ‘How far would a Sikh go for his/her religion?’ and ‘How do religious teachings show us how to live a good life.’ Art and Handwriting We will be working across the curriculum to look at graphic art and expressive fonts. This year we hope that the majority of the children will earn their pen licenses! Geography Studying maps of the British Isles through a range of resources, including DigiMap, we are identifying the countries, counties and cities of the United Kingdom. Computing This term we shall be focusing on graphic design and fonts as well as following the Switched On Computing units for fusing geometry and art. PSHE To complement our work on Life Cycles in Science, we will be covering the Year 5 Sex and Relationship Education objectives as per the school policy. Please see overleaf for a reminder of the school SRE curriculum and vocabulary for this year group. French We shall be describing ourselves and members of our family as we learn to greet new people.
