5 Maths Please try to find time to do maths for 5-10 minutes a day
Embrace maths just like reading. You can refer to maths section on the website. If you’re unsure of methods you can refer to videos. Emphasis on reasoning and explaining number, not just moving onto bigger numbers

6 Maths This half term I would like you to focus on:
Number bonds to 10 and 20 (50 and 100) and all those in between – how many different ways to make 12? Multiples of 2, 5 and 10 – pairs games, songs Try to make it as practical and informal as possible (little and often just like reading).

7 Reading In Year 2 we encourage the children to change their books regularly during reading time Independent reading Guided Reading Library Please try to find time to read for 5-10 minutes a day and record in diary Children may change their book in the morning if they have finished it Reading diary

8 Phonics and Weekly Spelling Focus
Key words will be a home activity that can be completed in their home learning books. Spellings will be given every Friday and are to be completed for testing the following Friday. Phonics work will take place daily – is part of English and is not a separate subject. Encourage children to segment new words when writing

9 Home Learning Home Learning reinforces work in the classroom
On a Friday your child will bring home their home learning books and they will be collected the following Thursday. I would like the children to feel responsible for handing their homework in, but I will remind them. Please let us know of any problems!
