Your A-Level An academic qualification assessed through written examination

Welcome A-Levels: What are they? A-Levels: What to expect Next steps: University

A-Levels the Principles A-Level; Advanced Level; GCE; General Certificate of Education Normally studied by students aged 16-19 Graded using the scale: A* A, B, C, D, and E. All A-Levels are linear (the exams take place at the end of the course) Globally recognised as high-quality pre-university qualifications

A-Levels: What’s changed? Universities support the design of A-Level programmes. Removal of January exams and reduced resit opportunities. Increased synoptic assessment in A levels, allowing students to integrate and apply their skills, knowledge and understanding with breadth and depth. Reduced internal assessment. Exams at the end of the course. AS Levels no longer contribute to A-level grades.

Our New Programme Model Students study three programmes for two years (Y12 & Y13). External exams are taken only at the end of Y13. There are no AS exams in Y12. PPE exams take place in: January of Y12 October of Y13 March of Y13

A-Level Assessment Exams taken at the end of the course covering the content from the whole course Biology: 3 x 120 min exams Maths: 3 x 120 min exams English: 2 x 150 min exams Some subjects have some “Non-exam assessment” in the form of a coursework task.

An A-Level student? It is challenging (it’s supposed to be…) Keep organised and on top of work Don’t be afraid to ask questions Pick your subjects wisely Understand what you’re good at (and what you’re not) Develop good exam technique
