Muscular System EQ: What is the function of the muscular system and the different types of muscles?

What is the Muscular System? System of the human body that provides motor power for all movements in the body Made up of special tissue called: muscular tissue Important because without this system life will stop Muscles not only are responsible for voluntary movement, but also for movement that we are not always aware of (breathing, digestion, pumping of blood)

What are the different types of Muscles? There are 3 types of muscles: 1) skeletal, 2) smooth and 3) cardiac. Skeletal Muscles Forms most of a human's body weight All movement made at our will are produced by skeletal muscles Called skeletal muscles, because it is mostly found attached to the skeleton and allows for movement of the skeletal system

What are the different types of Muscles? Smooth Muscles Forms the soft body organs (stomach, intestines, blood vessels, etc.) Not under the will of the human, responsible for unconscious body activities (breathing, digestion, etc.) Called smooth muscles because they do not have any striations (ridges, marks, etc.) like the other two types

What are the different types of Muscles? Cardiac Muscles Muscles that are ONLY found in the human heart Very strong and powerful muscles Involuntary movement Responsible for the force needed to pump blood throughout the whole body

What are the 5 Functions of the Muscular System? MOVEMENTS OF BODY PARTS: Skeletal muscles are responsible for all voluntary movements of human body parts. They provide the force by contracting actively at the expense of energy. STABILITY AND POSTURE: Skeletal muscles stabilize the human skeleton and give a proper posture to human beings. Some joints of human body are weak and they require the support of muscular system to achieve stability. Skeletal muscles are very important for such joints.

What are the 5 Functions of the Muscular System? 3. HEAT PRODUCTION: A large share of body’s energy is used by muscular system. As a result of high metabolic rate, muscles produce great amount of heat in the body. Heat produced by muscles is very important in cold climates. 4. CIRCULATION: Cardiac muscles provide the main force for circulation of blood throughout human body. 5. HELP IN DIGESTION: Smooth muscles of organs like stomach and intestine help the digestive system in the process of digestion of food.
