The life cycle of a Hippo Hope you enjoy!!! The life cycle of a Hippo (also more info) 

I wonder what my mate will be like birth Baby hippos are born in the water and swim straight away. reproduction growth Females can breed from 5-6 years old whereas the male at that time is usually 7-8 years old. Hippos are normally born in the wet season. At the age of three, hippos stop feeding from their mums and start eating grass. But they stay close to their mums. I wonder what my mate will be like adult Hippos start becoming adults at about 7-8 and that is when they leave their mothers and start searching for a mate.

The death of hippos . Hippos can die from old age(lifespan is 40-50 yrs.),the hippo is very vulnerable.

The habitat of hippos . Hippos live in dry places like Africa but they live in water. . Hippos live in rivers, swamps and places that have been protected. . Also, hippos can live in lakes and ponds.

Threats to the hippos life cycle  Hippos can get hunted by lots of animals; including humans. Leopards, lions and hyenas hunt hippos, and wild dogs are part of the chase too. Hippo being hunted by leopard. Hippo being hunted by lions.

Extra and very interesting facts about hippos Hippos are pregnant for 243 days. Female hippos weigh up to 1300-1500kg Hippos are omnivores and feed on carrion (very rarely) and have been found to eat meat. Hippos NEVER eat in water. They also sometimes eat land and reeds. Male hippos weigh up to 1500- 1800 kg Hippos run 30kmph which is an incredible speed!!
