1 MAKING SENSE OF REPRODUCTIVE STRATEGIES
Elephant (Loxodonta africana) & Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes)

2 Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes)
Chimpanzees inhabit Africa & live in loose communities of between individuals. The most important factor in a community is whether or not there is a female ready for mating, which occurs throughout the year. In the bonobo, the less well-known species of chimpanzee, males & females, young & old, tend to have many, brief sexual encounters with each other. Also in the bonobos, a female may be the dominant animal in a community.

3 Elephant (Loxodonta africana)
Except for whales, African elephants are the largest mammals living today. Elephants live in herds of females & several young adult males with a large male as a leader. Adult bulls may reach 10.8 ft. (high at the shoulder) and weigh 5 tons. Females are somewhat smaller. Both sexes have tusks, which may weigh as much as 121 pounds. They are fully grown at 25 years. The age of sexual maturity varies with the population density.

4 Reproductive strategies for Elephants
Tusked bulls sometimes fight duels to the death, and they also may fight for days. The winner then selects a female from the herd & after a brief courtship he mounts her from behind to deposit his sperm. Mating lasts about 20 min. & continues periodically for 2 days. After mating, the male stays with the cow for about 3 months. Just before birth, which occurs months after, the herd surrounds the cow who gives birth to a calf who is about 3.28 ft long & weighs 198 pounds. Several elephants in the herd help the mother. They are in the sexual reproduction category.

5 Reproductive strategies for Chimpanzee
A female’s estrous cycle lasts about 36 days, & will mate for about 6 or 7 days. The gestation period averages about 230 days, and usually one young is born. The birth weight is 4 pounds. For the first 3 months the baby is held by its mother. Puberty in both sexes occurs at about 7 years, but females do not give birth until they are 13 or 14. Females are capable of reproducing until they are 40 or so. They are in the sexual reproduction category.

6 Similarities Chimpanzee and elephant are likely similar because they both live in africa. Also they both live with their own species, no any kind just their own. And they are both mammals They both eat almost the same stuff grass, bananas, etc.. Both species have a leader for example: chimpanzee: females are the leaders, elephants: young males are the scouts with a large male as a leader.

7 Differences Chimpanzee: they usually sleep in the trees or employing nests of leaves. And also Chimpz, are generally fruit and plant eaters, but they also consume insects, eggs, and meat, including carrion. They have a tremendously varied diet that includes hundreds of known foods.Females can give birth at any time of year, typically to a single infant that clings to its mother's fur and later rides on her back until the age of two. Females reach reproductive age at 13, while males are not considered adults until they are 16 years old. Elephants: They do not sleep much, and they roam over great distances while foraging for the large quantities of food that they require to sustain their massive bodies like they eat Grasses, leaves, bamboo, bark, roots. Elephants are also known to eat crops like banana and sugarcane which are grown by farmers. Adult elephants eat lbs of food per day. also. When a calf is born, it is raised and protected by the whole matriarchal herd. Males leave the family unit between the ages of and may lead solitary lives or live temporarily with other males.
