Presentation transcript:

Focus: Students will identify the stages of life. Goal: To compare and contrast the different stages of life. Standard: NHES #1 – Health Promotion Warm-up: Interview your peers, Record their answers, and prepare to report back to whole class. Explain why it is important to know how your body works. Support with data. Describe what you found most interesting about the changing body topic so far and why.

Notes: Babies will continue to develop certain behaviors during different stages of life. These are all part of the human life cycle. Stage 1: INFANCY – The first year of life after birth. A. Weight gain triples and baby size doubles. B. Babies do a lot of touching, tasting and using all their senses to observe the world around them. C. They can recognize some words and may even say them, sit up, crawl, and pull themselves into standing position.

Stage 1 – INFANCY - First Year of Life

3. Stage 2 – CHILDHOOD – Child becomes a toddler and then a preschooler. A. They still grow and do many activities such as feed themselves, use the toilet, talk, walk, run, climb, and become curious and learn quickly (between 1 and 3 years old). B. As a toddler becomes a preschooler between 3 and 5 years old, they develop more complex skills. EX: Using paintbrush, button clothes, and using their imagination.

Stage 2 - CHILDHOOD

4. Stage 3: ADOLESCENCE- Between 12 to 18 is rapid growth and development. A. Mental, emotional, and social changes. B. Taking on more responsibilities at home. C. Reproductive organs mature and develop.

5. Stage 4: ADULTHOOD- About 19 adulthood begins and you mature greatly. A. Middle age comes about 30 to 50. You have careers, relationships, and families. B. In time, a person’s body systems weaken and eventually we die. C. Death is the final stage and the end of the human cycle.

Stage 4 - Adulthood

Group Work Why don't all people grow at the same time and at the same rate?  Do you think it is helpful to know about these kinds of changes? Why or why not?  What do you think are some good ways to cope with the changes that occur during this rapid period of growth?
