HCS Registration Procedure for Non-Traditional (Tim Tebow) Student Athletes Kevin Wieseman Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities August 4, 2016

Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Requires Non-Traditional Students to Register in Their Home Zone Enrollment Student must enroll in an AHSAA member public school in order to participate in an AHSAA interscholastic contest or practice. Student must be enrolled at the member public school that serves the area in which the student’s parents reside. Registration must occur within the first 20 days of the semester in the school they are zoned to attend. Note: All home school students are eligible their initial year of enrollment based on local board policy.

AHSAA Requires Non-Traditional Students to Register in Their Home Zone

AHSAA Requires Non-Traditional Students to Register in Their Home Zone

AHSAA Requires That Non-Traditional Students Are Responsible for Their Academic Accountability Students will adhere to all AHSAA rules applicable to academic accountability (Rule I, Section 9: Academic Rule, Requirements). Students will be required to take AHSAA criteria tests developed by the ALSDE for the AHSAA in all four core subjects at the end of each semester for academic eligibility beginning with grade 7 through the end of the first semester in grade 12. ALL assessment testing will be conducted on campus of the school under the supervision of a certified instructor employed by the school.

AHSAA Requires Home School Students to Participate in Two Electives in High School (One Elective in Middle School) Students must enroll and attend two electives on the campus of the school AHSAA recommends taking physical education class or athletic PE on campus for safety reasons. If the school requires an athlete to take a PE to participate in athletics, the home school student will be required to do so as well. If the school does not require athletic PE to participate in athletics, home school students may take PE through the school’s virtual program. Students may take one elective class on campus and one through the school’s virtual program or both elective classes through the school’s virtual program unless on campus athletic PE is required.

Huntsville City Schools Will Provide the Procedures and Offer Electives All participants in grades 7-12 will use Grad Point as the online platform for Electives All Exams will be given at the HCS central office with designated times and dates for assessments (currently testing will be scheduled Monday through Thursday from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.) All students in grades 7 & 8 will take and complete the virtual PE elective

HCS Has Designated Specific Grad Point Electives For Middle School and High School High School Electives: Health Opportunities through PE 240002 (*Life PE Alt) Fitness Lifestyle Design 24003 (*PE Alt) Accounting I 470012 Accounting II 470013 Business Math 210036 Careers in Criminal Justice 530022 Principals of Marketing 550011 Psychology 230071 Sociology I 230081 Creative Writing I 200033 * In high school, once the student makes a team, he/she will then attend the athletic PE class on campus or designated location (Virtual PE class will be dropped)
