Conflict Resolution

Healthy relationships take work! Describe a relationship that you need to work at to keep healthy. Explain.

Lesson: Healthy relationships does not mean there will not be any disagreements. Conflict resolution is the process of ending struggles by cooperation and problem solving. Stay calm Talk about how you feel Use “I” statements Listen Avoid blaming Avoid put downs Avoid using loaded words Reserve judgements or threats Separate the person from the problem Use a mediator – friend, counselor, or other adult

Lesson: Compromise – both parties give a little to solve the conflict Avoidance – one person involved walks away Passive/aggressive – one person gives in (passive) allowing the other to “win” (aggressive) Mediation – attempting to solve conflict using the assistance of another person

Lesson: Decision-Making Model – Define the conflict Brainstorm alternatives List pros & cons of each Make sure they are safe & legal Come to a decision AFTER – evaluate that decision
