Equipment We provide everything your child needs for the school day but they may bring in their own pencil case if they’d like to. Each day they will need to bring a school bag carrying their reading book, planner and homework book. We recommend that the children leave their P.E. kits in school.

P.E. Indoor P.E. e.g. Gymnastics - Tuesday Outdoor P.E. – Thursday Children need pumps AND trainers School P.E. uniform must be worn, including top with school logo. All children take part in lessons.

NAME EVERYTHING!

Reading Please read with your child every day. Children who read regularly at home make the most progress in school. Planners are checked every day so that children can work towards Reading Awards. Children who don’t read regularly at home will read at playtimes or lunchtimes. Children read at least once a week with an adult during a Guided Reading session. We also teach specific reading skills through our comprehension lessons. Please encourage your child to access Reading Plus Online at home in addition to the timetabled sessions in school.

Homework Children will receive a spelling/handwriting sheet on a Monday which should be completed in their best handwriting each evening. Children should read and practise their tables for 10 minutes each evening. A piece of English and Maths homework will be sent home each weekend and should be returned on a Tuesday. Please also encourage your child to make use of Mathletics. We run a Homework Club on Monday lunchtimes for children who are unable to complete homework at home. If you have any problems or concerns over homework, please speak to us or put a note in the planner. Logins for Mathletics and Reading Online Plus will be noted in planners.

Rewards and Sanctions We use the Consequence Book! Children are given a verbal warning, followed by a written warning. After that they begin to lose time from their Golden Time on Friday afternoon. If poor behaviour continues, the children are moved to another place in the classroom, sent to another classroom and finally to Mr Williams. We will inform you via the planner or phone call if your child reaches the stage where they’ve lost Golden Time. Children are rewarded with praise, stickers, House Points, Golden Time, mentions in Achievement Assemblies and Progress Awards.

The Curriculum The 3 morning sessions are devoted to Maths, Writing and Reading. Much of our ‘topic work’ (History, Geography, Science) is also completed through English. Afternoons begin with Reading Workshops followed by Science, P.E., R.E., Art, D&T, Spelling Workshops and Assemblies. Children have a Music lesson, during which they will learn to play the flute, once a week. Mr. Mullen leads ‘Green Curriculum’ sessions linked to our Science topic. We aim to make our curriculum as rich as possible by organising trips and inviting visitors to school. We also hold subject specific days e.g. Science or Art Days.
