Joints Year 10 AADP

Types of joints There are lots of different joints in the body. We are going to look at the 3 most common. Hinge Joint Ball and Socket Sliding Joint

Ball and socket Joint The ball and socket joint allows: Side to side movement. Back and forth. Rotational movements. Examples of this joint are the hip And the shoulder.

Hinge joint The hinge joint allows: Back and forth movement Bending and straightening Examples of a hinge joint are elbow, Knee, ankle.

Sliding joint The sliding joint occurs where two bones with flat surfaces slide on each other. This joint is restricted in terms of movement. Sliding joints allow side to side movement and limited back and forth movement. Examples of this joint are between the carpal and metacarpal bones and the vertebral column.
