Think you know Scouting? Let’s take a closer look...

What is Scouting? Scouting offers fun, challenge and everyday adventure to 450,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK.

Across five age ranges. . . Beaver Scouts (6-8 years) Cub Scouts (8-10½) Scouts (10½-14 years) Explorer Scouts (14-18 years) Scout Network (18-25 years)

We have a positive impact on . . . Young people – providing opportunities to grow in confidence and develop life skills. Adult volunteers – providing the opportunity to develop skills and training. Society – providing practical benefits to our communities.

Scouting is . . . For boys and girls Active – over 200 activities. Community based - in villages, towns and cities across the UK Inclusive - all kinds of cultures, faiths and backgrounds Global - 31 million Scouts in over 200 countries across the world. In Berkshire – 8,500 young people and over 2,000 volunteers.

Any questions about the Scouts?

Why volunteer? Try new things and gain qualifications, such as First Aid Use your current skills and gain new ones You can give as much or as little time as you would like Be an active member of your community Meet new people Build confidence and have fun!

A variety of roles Opportunities to support young people Opportunities in behind the scenes roles – from decorating a meeting place to driving the minibus Opportunities to help lead our Groups, Districts, Counties and Regions as volunteer managers

Don’t believe us? Here’s what others say… 41% of organisations say that Scouting would be a positive influence on a job applicant’s appointment. 91% of Scouts said it helped them gain ‘key skills’ such as leadership, team working and social skills The training and development opportunities taken up by Scouts were critically important to employers The Impact Assessment of The Scout Association, PACEC, Feb 2011

Many people doing a little bit. ‘We’ve got a brilliant, talented nation and I want some of that talent to be used to support young people. Life is an adventure live it!’ Bear Grylls, Chief Scout
