Reading and Home Learning Please share books with your children We will be reading with your child every week and signing reading records. At school they will be reading at a higher level (Guided Reading). Your child will have homework every Friday to be returned by the following Wednesday.

Routines for the Day Children to be with an adult until 8:45am. Registration to take place at 9:00am. A TA will be by the door if you have any questions or want to pass on information. Children leave through outside classroom door where parents and carers should wait. Please let us know if there are any special arrangements or children are going to be collect by someone else. If your child is absent from school please let the office know. Let us know about medicines, glasses or particular needs. Please let us know if you have any concerns.

Children have a session of daily physical activity or wake and shake. A Typical Day Children have a session of daily physical activity or wake and shake. Each morning begins with a phonics session, concentrating on spelling and grammar work. We endeavour to have a Maths and English session each day which last approximately an hour. Children have assembly everyday at 10:10am except on a Friday when we have Oak Leaf assembly every other week at 9:05am.

Behaviour and Rewards. The children in each class have decided and agreed upon the responsibilities they need to remember and have created and signed a class charter. Rewards: Marbles in a jar for groups and as a class. At the end of the half term there will be “treat” day if they have filled their class marble jar. Celebration assembly (whole school every other week) where children receive an oak leaf to celebrate fantastic work and behaviour. Stars of the day (2H), Stars of the week (2R) The sun, rainbow and thought cloud. Two bears Henry and Cookie (2R) The Proud cloud (2R) Sanctions: Verbal warning Visual warning Loss of 5 minutes play time Children may be kept in at play time to finish work Deliberate hurting of another child or damage to property results in the child being sent to Miss Phillips

PE and Games Games on Tuesday afternoons and P.E. is usually on Fridays for both classes, but currently the children are playing golf on Monday afternoon. Your child should bring in some named warm trousers, a warm top and a pair of trainers. Trainers MUST be kept in school and worn for Games, no plimsolls for health and safety reasons the children will keep their games and PE kits in one bag at school for the whole half term unless they need to be sent home for washing or drying.

SATs SATs (Standard Assessment Tasks) take place in Year 2 this year – these will take place in May 2018. As we receive more information about the new SATs we will forward it to parents and carers.

Handwriting We are using a cursive style of handwriting, which has a lead-in and lead out. This year we are having an academy wide focus on handwriting and presentation. Children are expected to write the long date and underline it on all work.

What can you do to help your child? Listen to your child’s pronunciation and correct their errors. Regular reading practise every night. Sharing books and reading to your child can be just as beneficial. Encourage them to read the words on their spelling/word lists, once they recognise the word, they can be encouraged to spell it. Practise correct pencil grip and any other fine motor skills Encourage them to do their home learning tasks as independently as possible but give them resources or guidance needed.

Thank you for coming. Any questions?
