3 Top tips to be successful in Year 6
Regular reading at home/ school. Daily multiplication practise. Check the website for details about trips, home learning, and child’s personal targets. Info is also on the window. Support your child with all home learning. Set times at home to help with this.

4 The general order of the day in our Key Stage Two classes.
8:55am registration, start of learning. 10:55am playtime with snacks 12:10pm lunchtime 1:00pm afternoon session 3:15pm end of the school day

5 General routines Music and Spanish are on a Monday
PE is Monday, Tuesday 6K, Friday 6S

6 Homework There is a whole school focus on basic skills.
Home Learning books can be covered in gift wrap and clear sticky back plastic. Reading every day – 1 signature for 20 mins reading, 5 signatures children get a token for their ‘race to the roof’ challenge. Spellings are sent home on Monday and tested on Friday. The expectation will be that children practise, using a column per day, and complete corrections at home. Our aim is for all Year 6 children to answer any times table or related fact within 2 seconds. Please work on rapid recall of this with your children. We will have a stronger focus on SATs skills later in the year, with additional tasks being set. Any changes, please check the website. If you are concerned or have queries, please see us.

7 Curriculum Current topic: World War 2 Genre in English: Letter to persuade- House Captain or Vice Captain. Poetry. Narrative, Carrie’s War Area of Maths: Number and place value, mental strategies, word problems using formal methods (+,-,X & division), fraction, decimal and %. RE topic: Creation

8 Key Dates 15th Sept- trip to Northe Fort- cost £ th Nov- Remembrance Assembly lead by Year 6 – time to be confirmed SATs week – May 8th–12th Butchers Coppice - Year 6 residential trip – 7th-9th June

9 SATs Statutory Assessment Tests SATs Week starting 8th May 2017 is SATs week. Children will complete tests in mathematics, SPAG (spelling, punctuation & grammar) and reading. (All children need to be at school). Teacher assessment in writing/science. Children will need to complete a range of extended pieces of writing and carry out investigative task/ writing in science.

Behaviour script 1 script- reflection for 15 minutes, parent/carers informed. 3 scripts- reflection and discussion with parents/ carers. Please note the change of detentions. Detentions will now be given on the day ONLY if the child has refused to work during the set class time. Not 5 scripts as previously.

12 Mass We celebrate Mass in church regularly, usually once a month on a Wednesday at 2pm. You are welcome to join us. Please check the school website for details.

14 Contacting Your Child’s
Class Teacher We are available to talk after school for a short time, if you require a longer appointment please contact the office, or arrange after school with the class teacher.

15 Please note- Y6 staff start teaching at 8.55am.
Attendance at School We encourage regular attendance here at school but appreciate there are times when your child is unwell that they need to be at home. We expect that if your child is absent for any reason you will inform the school by contacting the main office. When your child returns to school we require a letter from you explaining the reason for their absence, to allow us to fill in the legal register documenting absences.
