Happy Lunchtimes Monday 12th September 2016

Looking after each Other What do we want? Purposeful Play Respect for Each Other Looking after each Other

Lunchtime Supervisors Lunchtime Supervisors are ‘in charge’ at lunchtime. If you ask a member of staff if you can do something during lunchtime the staff member will respond “You need to ask a Lunchtime Supervisor.”

Rewards LTSs will be looking for good/improving behaviour. They will be giving pom-poms out to children. When you receive a pom-pom you will give it to the corresponding LTS with the coloured bag – House Colours. These will then be displayed in the hall. Who will get the most pom-poms?

The Zone! An area of the playground will be known as ‘The Zone!’ Each day a different activity will take place. It will be supervised by a LTS, who will determine each day’s activity and ensure the rules are known and respected. The Zone is inclusive – everyone is always welcome to come and play. The activities will be published in the newsletter and in Monday’s assembly. Suggestions for activities can be given to Pupil Leaders or posted on the display wall in the hall.

Activities Football – Each year group will follow a rota for playing football on the field. Appropriate footwear must be worn (old trainers etc) NOT school shoes, if the field is wet. Bibs will be worn and red/yellow cards followed. Wet Play – On wet days each year group will have a different activity such as music, table top games and a quiet calm area. These activities will be shared as part of the ‘Happy Lunchtimes’ display in the hall.

Dining Hall One year group at a time will be asked to line up on the playground. You will be sent in to the hall a few at a time to reduce the queue time. You must walk into the dining hall calmly and once you have your food, you will find a seat with a friend promptly. You may sit where you like, children having packed lunches and school dinners may sit together. You may talk to each other in the dining hall – in fact we encourage this. A Yellow card will be held up if the noise is getting loud and a Red card will be shown when a LTS needs silence to give out an instruction. Music will be playing in the background for you as well. Children who have packed lunches must take their left overs home for their parents to monitor.

The Whistle The first whistle will go at 1:12pm to ensure that the transition from lunch does not encroach on afternoon learning. The whistle will also indicate to teachers that it is time to make their way to the playground ready for the handover from LTS’s. When the second whistle is blown, you must pick up any equipment you are using and walk to the shed to put it away, and/or walk straight to their line – alphabetical order. “First whistle – stand and freeze, second whistle – tidy up and line up please”

Rewards Step 1 ~ children to be awarded coloured pom-poms for targeted behaviours ~ these represent our Houses and are to be displayed in the Hall and compared weekly. Step 2 ~ children to receive a special certificate from each of the Lunchtime Staff which will be awarded in Star of the Week Assembly on a Monday. The reason for the award will be given to re-inforce positive behaviours. Step 3 ~ ‘Top Table’ each half term each LTS nominates a child and (a chosen friend) to have their lunch at a ‘Top Posh Table’ with a member of the Lunchtime Team.

Sanctions Step 1 ~ quiet word/raised eyebrow/amicable resolution. Step 2 ~ 2 minute Time Out (to be spent with Lunchtime staff) and apology to be made. This is a 5 minute Time Out (again, to be spent with Lunchtime staff) when you need to be spoken to following disappointing/uncooperative behaviour etc; an apology must be made. Step 3 ~ referral to a member of the senior staff if a serious incident has taken place eg racist comment, deliberately hurting another child (to be dealt with according to the school’s Behaviour and Discipline Policy and a 5 minute Time Out and apology to follow). In this case it is important that you are brought back to the original supervisor to complete step 2 above, re-enforcing the authority of the LTS.
