Feelings Good feelings: Happy Confident Relaxed Surprised Proud Excited Bad feelings: Sad Angry Stressed Confused Lonely Bored

Managing anger

What makes you angry? Someone calls you a name Someone hurts you When someone takes something that belongs to you You can’t do something You get told off When you break something

How do you know when you’re getting angry? Heart is beating faster Clenching fists Feel yourself getting flushed Sweaty palms Clenched jaw Stomach gets tight / upset Pressure in your head

Anger and aggression Know the difference between anger and aggression. Anger is an emotion. It is ok to be angry sometimes. Aggression is acting out inappropriately and is not ok. Learn to stop your aggression and express your anger appropriately.

What might you do when you’re angry? Throw something Break something Shove, grab, kick or hit someone or something Call someone names Give someone a dirty look Get others to “gang up” on them Spread rumours about them Give them the silent treatment

Do these actions help you?

What are the consequences? Physical harm to someone or self Destruction of property Loss of privileges / rewards Loss of friends / family Getting a bad reputation Loss of job Going to prison

Ways to keep cool Tell someone. Find a quiet place. Take time out. Find fun distractions. Make good decisions about what you see and hear. Choose friends who make you feel good. Learn to forgive and forget.

Next steps Know what pushes your buttons. Recognise when you’re getting angry. Stop and think! Cage your rage … it’s your choice. Decide what to do.

Prayer Dear God, Please help me to watch my words and actions so that I stop hurting myself and others with what I say and do. Amen
