Photosynthesis Plants use ATP but must store it Photosynthesis- process of using the sun’s energy (light energy) to make glucose (chemical energy) Then the plant takes glucose and makes complex carbohydrates (stored energy)

2 PHASES PRODUCES ATP ,NADPH and Oxygen (Also called Calvin Cycle) 1. Light dependant- chlorophyll converts light energy into chemical energy- PRODUCES ATP ,NADPH and Oxygen 2. Light Independent- uses CO2 to produce glucose (Also called Calvin Cycle)

What happens when chlorophyll absorbs light? The electrons in chlorophyll are raised to a higher energy level. These electrons are passed to an electron carrier molecule: NADP+ NADP+ becomes NADPH ADP is also converted to ATP Occurs across the thylakoid membrane
