2. 8.1 Energy and Life Energy needed to: - grow, develop
- move materials around
- build new molecules
- respond to environmental changes

3. Energy from ATP
ATP = Adenosine TriPhosphate

4. Energy is stored in the bond holding the last phosphate
When last bond is broken, energy is released and ADP + P is formed
ATP  ADP + P + energy

5. Heterotrophs and Autotrophs
Organisms get energy by:
- consuming other living things ( = heterotrophs)
- making their own food ( = autotrophs)

7. 8.2 - Photosynthesis Photosynthesis
= process by which plants, some algae, some bacteria capture sun’s energy and convert it to useable chemical energy.

Occurs in chloroplast

9. Pigments absorb light energy
- main pigment = chlorophyll
Occurs in 2 stages:
- Light-dependent reactions
- Light-independent reactions
(aka Calvin cycle)
