Weaving PSHE into the new National Curriculum

• We introduce the value and reflect on this in our assemblies. The PSHE education of children plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve. At Rivington Primary we believe that PSHE is essential to raising standards of attainment for all children and to prepare them for the opportunities and experiences of modern life. Values led education supports behaviour and influences actions and attitudes. It equips children with the self-esteem and confidence to enable them to reach their potential and gives them the social skills to work with others effectively to build an effective and supportive school community.   To implement values led education we work in the following ways as a whole school: • We focus on one value a month from the carefully selected planned program which is reviewed annually. • We introduce the value and reflect on this in our assemblies. • We explore the values in class in a planned 30 minute weekly session and in cross-curricular subjects. Sessions in class in each month cover the objectives for that value as referenced in this document. • We talk about the value at home as this is shared with parents. • We aim to show the value in our behaviour towards others. • We celebrate the children’s ability to show the value in their behaviour and we choose a good citizen of the month to receive an award from each class. • We continue to reflect on previous values that link with our cross curricular learning. For more information about each curriculum area please speak to the class teacher.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring that it: • Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our children. • Prepares our children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences they already face and for adult life. • Provides information about keeping healthy and safe, emotionally and physically. • Encourages our children to understand how all actions have consequences and how they can make informed choices to help themselves, others and the environment.
