Our Value for the month of September is ‘Respect’. Firstly, self- respect– to know that ‘I am valuable’. We will identify our own qualities and encourage them to consider the qualities that others possess. Over the course of the month, we will discuss the richness that diversity offers and that by respecting and learning about others we can understand one another better.

Value of the Month: Tolerance Our value for this month of October is ‘Tolerance’. We will be exploring how we can make a more accepting and inclusive society and the part we play in the wider world.

Value of the Month: Peace Peace is the Value for November. We will be discovering the impact of our individual actions on the wider world and how we treat other people. We will consider how one person can really make a difference in achieving peace and how Jesus can be our role model in this goal. The biblical concept of peace is not just the absence of war. It includes peace with God, positive harmony and healthy relationships between people. It involves spiritual as well as material security. Peace is a wholeness, a state of well-being.

Value of the Month: Hope December will be our month for reflecting on Hope. With the Christmas season approaching December may be a time where we might focus on presents, food and parties. However, December should be a month where we can hope things for the future; for ourselves and the world around us. This will be a time when we think about people less fortunate than ourselves and try to instil hope in those around us.

Value of the Month: Responsibility Our value for the new year is Responsibility where we are trying to understand how to be responsible for not only objects and things but also taking responsibility for our actions – both positive and negative. We will consider how through reflecting on our behaviour we can develop a better attitude to taking ownership of our actions.

Value of the Month: Love Love will be our focus for February. Obviously this is a time to reflect on the many different types of love: romantic, for our family, friends, learning, God and our neighbour. We will consider how Jesus is the perfect example of love and how we can use his example to love one another unconditionally. In school, love translates into an ethos of care and concern which embraces all members of the school community.

Value of the Month: Humility Our value for this month is Humility. We will be encouraging good listening skills when others’ share their ideas, not being boastful or too proud, accepting that others may be right, and considering the lives of others particularly those less fortunate or less able. Role models such as Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela and Jesus’ teaching about humility will help understanding and inspire us all.

Value of the Month: Compassion Compassion will be our value for April. This means showing kindness and respect to each other. It is reflected in the ways in which members of our community support each other through difficult times, such as bereavement. God Himself is the perfect example of community—the three persons of the Trinity are bound together in the ultimate closeness which makes them one. In the Gospels we find many stories of Jesus showing compassion to the sick and the downtrodden of society. Christians believe that their attitudes and actions must reflect the kindness, mercy and compassion of Jesus and the love of God for everyone.

Value of the Month: Courage Courage will be a particularly important value to consider at this point in our school year for much of our school embarking on external examinations. Courage requires us to show bravery in the face of adversity, stand up for others and not be scared to take chances and experience new things. Courage takes many forms: it may mean facing up to opposition or personal danger; it may mean overcoming your personal fears or phobias; it could mean taking a stand for the right course of action.

Value of the Month: Unity Unity is about being together in a common purpose. We are united in educating all children for life through inspirational, focused teaching. Unity is about being focused on a goal, or even on a person. We will learn about unity through living the values as we share a common purpose every single month. This is particularly important within a school community and wider society where we need to come together to achieve our aims.

Value of the Month: Appreciation Our value for the month of July is Appreciation. We will be focussing on recognising and enjoying all of the good qualities of someone or something. In school there will be many opportunities to be generous and many people who work in schools often go above what is required of them. It is also important to remember to say thank you—especially for those things or those people that get taken for granted! The Bible tells us to share generously with those in need, and good things will come to us in turn. Each of us has something to offer to someone in need. We can give our money and our time to charity, or be a friend to someone who is sick or lonely.
