Welcome Future 8th Graders! It’s Scheduling Time!

Scheduling Timeline Important Dates: January 23-26 -Teacher recommendations for English/Math. Choose your elective(s). January 27- Return your completed pink course selection form to your homeroom teacher (signed by a parent/guardian). Computer Lab Day - enter your new 8th grade schedule online Cougars and Panthers– Tuesday, February 7th Tigers and Lions- Wednesday, February 8th Bobcats- Thursday, February 9th Counselors are available to answer questions

Teacher Recommended Courses English 8 & Cohort English 8 Advanced English 8 Algebra 1A & Cohort Algebra 1A Algebra 1 Honors Geometry

English Recommendation Criteria PSSA/NWEA data and teacher recommendation Advanced English 8 Successful completion of English 7 with a 90% or higher or Advanced English 7 with an 80% or higher Summer pre-requisite assignment

Math Recommendation Criteria Algebra 1A 60-84% in Pre-Algebra 60-100% in Principles of Pre-Algebra PSSA/NWEA data and teacher recommendation Algebra 1 85% or higher in Pre-Algebra Honors Geometry 80% or higher in Algebra 1 or pass the Algebra 1 Keystone Exam

World Language French I German I Latin I Spanish I Selecting a level I language in 8th grade allows the student to progress through the 5 levels available The course and final grade earned will be listed on your high school transcript Full year, 5 days per week

Art Concepts Full Year, 3 days per week: Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, canvas painting, drawing, ceramics, copper enameled jewelry and different forms of sculpture and media

TV Production/Acting Full Year, 3 days per week: Filming, lighting, directing, acting, editing video, radio production, character and scene study and improv games

Band 8 Full Year, 3 days per week: Trumpet, trombone, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, saxophone, flute, percussion, baritone, tuba Prior knowledge base of playing a band instrument Group lesson once per week Concerts are required

Mixed Chorus 8 Full Year, 3 days per week: Concerts are required Several after school rehearsals are required Occasional pull out classes for ensembles Music Performance Assessment (Adjudication) Optional Competition Trip and PNC Park performance

Middle School String Ensemble Full Year, 3 days per week: Violin, viola, cello, string bass Pre-requisite: previous experience and/or audition Mandatory scheduled performances Several after school rehearsals required Collegiate adjudication

SV Academy of Choice (Cyber) You can register for summer cyber classes on January 25th You must pay a fee for each summer course Acceleration, Audit/Remediation and Credit Recovery options are available

Dance Must register for cyber classes to fit dance in your schedule Please see your counselor to discuss options

Remember Don’t lose your registration form! Program of Studies is online at www.svsd.net You must have a teacher signature for your Math and English recommendations Choose your electives wisely A parent/guardian must sign your registration form! No schedules will be changed after JUNE 1st!
