Roles in Insurance process Insurance Broker Emergency Provider ABV provides travel insurance to you while you are on assignment. This includes medical insurance and coverage for theft, loss etc. Insurance Company

General Rules to follow Volunteers must take responsibility for their own health & welfare Keep your emergency travel card with you Ask your In-country team to tell you about, familiarise yourself with local hospitals, clinics Keep enough money with you to allow for transport to hospital and enough phone credit Mentally rehearse any scenarios you think you might come up against

Serious Medical Emergency Call Dynamiq on Emergency Number – ask them to ring you back Quote policy name and number You will be instructed to go to the nearest credible emergency centre (Generally Dynamiq do not arrange road transport to medical facilities) Once you have arrived at the clinic, Dynamiq should have called ahead You will be seen by a medic, who will confer with the resident Australian medical officer at Dynamiq During this process you should inform your ICM of what is happening Note: Keeping ABV, ICM or your family informed of progress is generally not something Dynamiq will do Highlight that policy number, name and phone number is on the card- and that this is Dynamic the Emergency Provider for AHI

Important to remember Aim for one person to be the contact with Dynamiq – you or your ICM If you are required to be admitted as a patient to a clinic: Dynamiq provide a “letter of guarantee” to the clinic; and you will not be asked to pay any bills. If you are not required to be admitted to the clinic: you may be asked to pay for treatment up front; and you can claim these expenses (details to follow) Maintaining contact by one person avoids confusion (by Dynamiq) and therefore highly recommended. Ideally this will be you, but if you are unable to be that person, it should be your ICM. You will be admitted as a patient to the clinic if a medical emergency is confirmed by Dynamiq,. You should not be asked to pay any bills once the “letter of guarantee” has been provided to clinic by Dynamiq. Dynamiq will always take a precautionary position when it comes to medical emergencies. If there is any doubt, they will have you admitted, treated, transferred or evacuated. If you believe that your condition is more serious than Dynamiq are treating it call Dynamiq and demand to speak to their medical director.

Important to remember Emergency treatment for pre-existing medical condition is covered IF you self-identify in pre-medical process Only emergency dental is covered - no fillings When you return to Australia you are under Medicare, not Insurance

Non-Serious Medical Incident Any claim that does not involve a medical emergency or hospitalisation Visit the nearest medical clinic that is recommended by ICM or HO and get treated by medical staff If in doubt you can call Dynamiq You will be asked to pay expenses which you can claim (details to follow) NOTE: Pre-existing routine expenses for medical are not covered Example of non serious medical incident would be: a cough or cold, lost prescription glasses, crucial medications, etc You could call Dynamiq if any concern – the worst that will happen is that they advise that your situation is not an emergency. On the contrary, they may offer helpful advice such as giving details of a nearby AHI approved doctor, clinic or pharmacist.

Non-Serious Non-Medical Incident For cases involving theft, robbery or assault, obtain a police report for your claim. The ICM will assist you with this process. For any valuable items you are taking – keep documentation, photos, receipts, serial numbers Additional insurance may need to be sorted for large, expensive items. If they are assignment specific this needs to be discussed with project manager.

Making a Claim Complete the Accident & Health Claim Form Submit claim form with: Medical receipts and documentation; or Police report, receipts/proof of ownership/photos of items etc Send to: David McAlary at Civic Insurance Brokers, email: davidm@civicinsurance.com.au ABV Project Manager Excess - $250 ABV will pay this for medical claims Volunteer will pay this for other claims Civic Insurance can offer advice about what you can claim and can be contacted at any time The Accident & Health Claim form is sent to you in Pack 2 For lost equipment, the more information you have the better – brochures, photos, serial numbers, receipts when purchased etc If possible collect all medical receipts together from one illness or injury and submit in bulk
